Indie Shuffle / Kimberly Manning

In the heart of Chicago’s entertainment district, among the bars and hip nightlife, lies the three story bar/venue Subterranean. Recently, Chicago natives Color Radio took the stage to a nearly packed bar.

Accompanied by brother Tohm on the drums, Joel Chasco on bass, and Matt Thomas on keys, this indie-pop rock group is new to the scene and has thus far only released an EP. But that didn’t stop the quartet from getting crowd participation by playing a Radiohead cover and telling jokes between songs.

“Bulls, Bulls, Bulls,” lead vocalist Jonathan Ifergan chanted, after a beautiful victory by the home team earlier in the evening. It was just the right thing to make the crowd go wild.

With pop tendencies, love-struck lyrics, and catchy guitar riffs, Color Radio displays high potential amongst bands of similar entities. The dreamy melodies and fast-paced beats make for a great summer listen.

The band’s heart and soul is obvious. As the date approaches for the release of their debut record Architects (on their own label Mapless Records), the Chi-town group is one to keep an eye on. The album is set to drop in June. – Kimberly Manning
